Diet and Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s is a horrible illness. Almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by this debilitating illness. What’s worse is that by 2050, estimates say there will be 15 million Alzheimer’s patients in the US. It is rarely referred to as an epidemic, but with the staggering growth rates that’s clearly what it is, and how it should be treated. Memory issues does not just plague the elderly, I often see it in young adults too. I tell them to stop drinking SODA! You are probably wondering, what can you do to lower your risk? Things like aerobic exercise, and keeping your brain active have been shown to have protective effects on the brain. But possibly most important, according to a several studies, is your diet. What you eat has a larger impact than your genetics when it comes to Alzheimer’s.

When it comes to the brain it’s not just a matter of making sure you eat the right things, but just as importantly, you need to make sure you don’t eat the wrong things. Your body runs on food, and your brain uses about 20% of your energy! That’s more than any other single organ. So, it only makes sense that you are giving your brain high quality fuel. You need to feed it! This includes healthy fats, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, vitamins, amino acids and minerals. Foods that are bad for you include complex carbohydrates, processed foods, fast food, and sugar. These cause your body to produce toxins. Toxins which have a wide range of negative effects, such as inflammation, and build-up of plaques in the brain which leads to diminished cognitive function.

So what kinds of foods are included in the “bad” category? Unfortunately, the staples of the American Diet. White breads, white pasta, anything with white sugar, processed cheese, processed meats (yes that includes bacon!), sodas and sugary drinks, and basically anything that is “ready to eat” like TV dinners and packaged snacks. A special note needs to be made for Trans-Fats. These are especially bad for your overall health, in a study looking at cancer (specifically breast cancer) the researchers found that a 10% dietary increase in trans-fats, resulted in a 12% increase in cancer rates! Possibly worse still another study shows that as little as two grams per day of trans-fats can double the risk of dementia. That is a significant increase off a small amount.

Now that sounds like a lot of foods to avoid, and it is, but there are plenty of foods that are not only beneficial to your health and brain, but also delicious. These foods include: Cold water fish (such as salmon), non GMO berries, dark-skinned fruits, coffee and dark chocolates, leafy green vegetables, and lean meats (turkey, white fish, chicken, and beef). Switching your diet from bad to good foods will benefit your health in more ways than can be covered here, but your brain will be chief among them.

With the rates Alzheimer’s increasing every year, you owe it to your future self to make sure that you do everything in your power now to minimize your risk. Don’t wait for scientist to develop some miracle cure that might not come, and will probably cost a fortune if it does. Get out and do some aerobic exercise, challenge your brain with puzzle and games, and most important eat right! Start by cutting out trans-fats. 30 years from now you’ll be glad you did.

BIOM 25 billion: Alzheimer’s disease is associated with severe cognitive impairments as well as some metabolic defects. Resent research conducted by Kashan University of Medical Sciences indicates a link between probiotics and cognitive function. The study was published in open-access journal frontiers in aging neuroscience. The group taking the probiotic, had levels of hs-CRP (highly sensitive c-reactive protein, a powerful marker of inflammation) decreased by 18% indicating a dramatic reduction in neuro-inflammation. Load up on your beneficial bacteria and let them go to work! I recommend taking 1 to 2 capsules nightly with cold water right before bed.

NeuroComplex: Alzheimer disease is an age-related disease with a strong genetic component. But as the body starts to slow done it stops absorbing or manufacturing key nutrients, such as Methylcobalamine (b12) and Folate. These 2 key nutrients help with methylation reactions in the brain and for the formation of nucleic acid, which helps prevent neuro chromosomal breakage. Since 90% of our crops are from GMOs, I recommend taking a daily 1 to 2 capsules once daily with a meal. Click Here to Order Now!

AminoPro: Free form amino acids are readily bioavailable and require no digestion by the body, they can be absorbed efficiently into the bloodstream and accompanying tissues where they can be used for cellular regeneration. Your brain is a large muscle that requires protein to keep it strong and fit. Protein is one of the most important elements for the maintenance of good health and vitality and is of primary importance in the growth and development of all body tissues including muscles, blood, skin, hair, nails, bone and internal organs. Hormones, enzymes and antibodies are all formed from protein. I recommend taking 2 capsules once daily upon rising each morning. Click Here to Order Now!

SuperPro Omega: Research has examined how essential fatty acids affects the hippocampus, a key player of memory that’s among the first brain structures affected by age. Atrophy (shrinkage) of the hippocampus has been definitively linked to cognitive decline. These healthy fats are crucial in providing brain food! Supplementing is a must to keep your brain properly fuelled. Take once to twice daily with a meal. Click Here to Order Now!
