Amphetamines Destroy Lives

Amphetamine abuse has become a major challenge facing our society especially children. Prescription stimulants like Adderall and Dexedrine are highly addictive and disruptive drugs. Understanding more about these medications and how they work in the body creates the ability to recognize the signs of addiction, so individuals can learn how to get help in treating this challenging issue.

Amphetamines are used to treat hyperactivity in young people (including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and narcolepsy, a condition in which people fall asleep suddenly. Occasionally, it is used to treat depression.

Along with the addictive potential, there are risks that occur when using amphetamines. These include:

Risk of injury due to taking on dangerous activities
Cardiovascular issues, including stroke, heart attack, and heart failure
Weight loss and malnutrition
Sleep problems

The destructive properties of these drugs make people who abuse them feel depressed and even suicidal when they are not using the drug. As a result, cravings to keep using the drug can be very strong, making it difficult to stop use.

There are multiple ways of recognizing amphetamine abuse, including physical and mental symptoms and changes in behavior they include;

Increased heart rate and blood pressure
Decreased appetite and weight loss
Insomnia
Digestive upset
Mood swings
Aggression
Paranoia and anxiety
Visual, auditory, or tactile hallucinations
Inability to keep up with work, school, or home responsibilities
Much of the person’s time spent seeking or using the drug
Missing pills from a prescription
Changes in groups of friends and difficulties with relationships
Loss of interest in previous activities

CBD for ADD/ADHD
CBD helps lessen symptoms of ADD/ADHD directly. Studies have shown that CBD can increase levels of dopamine in the brain, one of the same goals for prescribing medications like Adderall and other stimulants.

CBD has also been shown to help increase levels of another important neurotransmitter, anandamide. Anandamide helps regulate things like mood, pain response and anxiety. It’s been shown that overly happy people have high levels of anandamide while depressed, anxious people tend to have very low levels.

CBD affects the anandamide levels by inhibiting the enzyme that breaks it down, FAAH. Increased anandamide levels could account for the anecdotal accounts that tout CBD as a great help for mood disorders.

CBD helps alleviate some of the adverse effects, like insomnia or anxiety, patients experience from taking stimulant medications.
