When you think of super foods, Kiwi doesn’t usually jump to mind first. The exotic fruit with the fuzzy skin might not seem like it, but it actually has a lot of health benefits to recommend making it a regular part of your fruit bowl. Lets take a look:
Digestion – Kiwi fruit contains actinidin, an enzyme used as a meat tenderizer, which might aid in digestion as well.

In one study Kiwi outperformed oranges and grapefruit in terms of antioxidant qualities. Eye health -Kiwi is high in lutein, and other phytochemcials which help protect eyes from cataracts and macular degeneration. Studies have found that three kiwi a day will lower risk of eyesight loss.
Skin care-Kiwi’s high zinc content helps promote testosterone in men as well as healthy skin, hair, nails and teeth
Diabetes-A study conducted on kiwi demonstrated that consumption of the fruit helps regulate adipogenesis which is critical for the prevention of diabetes. Plus it’s low glyemic index makes it safe to eat for people who currently have diabetes.
Asthma-One study found beneficial effects on the lung function among those who consumed fresh fruit regularly, including kiwis. Kiwi may reduce wheezing in susceptible children.
Energy-One serving of kiwi has more potassium than a banana, ideal for fluid and electrolyte balance and energy during exercise.
Blood Pressure -Kiwi’s high level of potassium also helps keep our electrolytes in balance by counteracting the effects of sodium.
