Essential Estrogens® – Hormone Test
The Essential Estrogens® hormone test provides a focused overview of estrogen balance in both pre- and post-menopausal women. Using a single urine sample, the Essential Estrogens® hormone test evaluates the dynamics of sex steroid metabolism that can profoundly affect a woman´s health throughout her lifetime. The Essential Estrogens® hormone test is designed to assist in the prevention and treatment of estrogen-related symptoms and conditions. This robust urine analysis is ideal for prescribing and monitoring Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and for assessing the risk of estrogen-related diseases, including breast cancer risk, prostate disease, osteoporosis, and auto-immune disease.
Female Hormones and Hormone Testing Hormones are tremendously complex. During the pre-menopausal years, imbalanced hormones can pose challenges with mood stabilization, conception, and regulations of the menstrual cycle. Many women entering their 40’s and 50’s experience a range of symptoms from hormonal imbalance, including loss of sex drive, “brain fog”, weight gain, hot flashes, irregular menstrual cycles, vaginal dryness, urinary incontinence, depression and/or changes in sleep patterns.
Essential Estrogens® Hormone Testing and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) From the onset of ones period through menopause and beyond, proper hormone balance affects many of the issues most important to women: fertility, sex, relationships, and even ones outlook on life. Establishing hormonal baseline measures is essential to determining the need for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or
other means of balancing hormones.
The Essential Estrogens® hormone test measures the following urinary estrogens and estrogen metabolites, and includes an assessment of estrogen methylation, which is a critical step in the protective mechanism of estrogen metabolism.
Estrogens:
* Estrone 1 (E1)
* Estradiol (E2)
* Estriol (E3)
Estrogen Metabolites:
* 2-Hydroxy-estrone
* 2-Methoxy-estrone
* 4-Hydroxy-estrone
* 4-Methoxy-estrone
* 16-Alpha-Hydroxy-estrone
2:16 Ratio:
* 2-Hydroxy-estrone/16-Alpha-Hydroxy-estrone ratio
Estrogen Methylation:
* 2-Methoxy-estrone/2-Hydroxy-estrone ratio
Estrogens, particularly estrone and estradiol, are well described in literature regarding the health and disease of estrogen sensitive tissues.
Estrogen deficiency:
* Osteoporosis
* Amenorrhea
* Menopausal symptoms
Estrogen excess:
* Menorrhagia
* Uterine Fibroids
* Anxiety/Irritability
* Breast Cancer
Estrogen metabolites are proven to convey protection (if balanced) or increased risk (if imbalanced) for disease. Estrogen metabolite imbalance results in increased risk of:
* Breast Cancer
* Osteoporosis
* Prostate Cancer
Estrogen methylation is a critical step in the protective mechanism of estrogen metabolism. Methylation is required for the protective effects of 2-hydroxy-estrone, and for the same detoxification of 4-hydroxy-estrone.
