Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a coenzyme. A coenzyme is similar to a vitamin. It is found in every cell of the body. Through a process known as “aerobic cellular restoration” the body produces 95% of it’s energy. Coenzymes also help enzymes work to digest food and they help protect the heart and skeletal muscles. CoQ10 levels are decreased in the heart muscle of patients with heart failure, with the deficiency becoming more pronounced as heart failure severity worsens.
A study, conducted by European Society of Cardiology (ESC), looked at the effects of CoQ10 on people with severe heart failure. Previous trials have shown that CoQ10 improves symptoms, functional capacity and quality of life in patients with heart failure with no side effects. The ESC found that CoQ10 treated patients had significantly lower cardiovascular mortality, as well as lower occurrence of hospitalisations for heart failure.
CoQ10 works different from medications because it enhances cellular function, rather than blocking it. According to lead author of the study Professor Mortenson “Supplementation with CoQ10, which is a natural and safe substance, corrects a deficiency in the body and blocks the vicious metabolic cycle in chronic heart failure called the energy starved heart.”
CoQ10 can also work as in conjunction with statins, because stains lower natural CoQ10 levels. So supplementation with CoQ10 can help keep levels within healthy levels, to manage LDL cholesterol levels.

Gone are the days when physicians threw every available pill or procedure at the patient in order to stretch out a few more seconds of life, regardless of the suffering involved. Today, the goal is real healing, not just “Band-Aids for booboos.” The old goal was to treat disease, but the new goal is to heal from it. Scientific breakthroughs are occurring in leaps and bounds. It is Dr. Jenny’s passion to keep abreast of the very best that discovery has to offer and to work in tandem with those who share her vision in order to produce real healing for the patient.
